Eye Witness

Tamara Mammadova.

Everyone has a mother. Armenians are not an exception. That day they had shot a woman, an old woman... Then one after another they tortured the wounded woman. Armenians pulled her eyes out, cut her chest, then killed her. Besides her they pulled Igbal’s eyes, cut out his segment and burnt him... He was one of the bravest sons of Khojaly.

Sanubar Alekperova, the resident of Khojaly

... Hasanabad, Mehdikend, Boz-dagy — these are the places they were shooting from. The land shuddered at the sound of armored infantry vehicles smashing into Khojaly. At first women and children were told to hide in the basements.

Then Elman Mamedov, head of the executive power came and said that we had to escape, otherwise we would be exterminated. Alif Hadjiyev, director of the airport organized a breakthrough through Armenian lines to lead the civilians to Agdam. We were trapped in an ambush near the village of Nakhichevanik. I will never forget what I saw here: there were -mountainsides filled with corpses. My mother was shot dead. My daughters Hidjran and Sevindj were injured. At the same moment the bullet lodged on me. Young women and children perished from the wounds on the snow.

Khanlar - a pilot of the helicopter.

It was very difficult to gather all the corpses, wounded men from the woods and mountains. Because the helicopter might touch the electric lines. Besides we had been shooting from the cannons and machine-guns. So we couldn't take all the wounded and dead bodies. We couldn't bury all the bodies. May be their spirits are flying on those woods and mountains. It was very hard to carry dead bodies that were wounded from their heads eyes, hearts, feet. When we were carrying the babies I thought, I imagined for a moment how these babies were crying for help and called these Armenian fascists. "Uncle, help me! Don't kill me!"

Khagani Khalilov - a militiaman.

On that day I was returning home from the position. It was about 6 o'clock in the morning. I reached our street. Armenians were strolling about the street. Two of them entered our yard. Suddenly I heard a scream. It was Zuleykha's cry. She had been paralyzed from her birth. When I reached her she was already killed by them. I killed them...

Shahmar Heydarov.

On February 29, we went to bring corpses. I found my aunt's dead body. She was shot on head, one of her legs was cut off. We found there about 80 corpses. The bodies had been mutilated, heads were cut. One of the men was shot on his back-part. His eyes were pulled out and killed.

Ghulu U – a Meskhetian Turk refugee.

At first I lived in Uzbekistan, in Fargana. The Uzbeks ravaged my home. Our houses were burnt, babies were thrown into the fire. Girls and brides were insulted... at that time I came to Azerbaijan, to Khojaly. I couldn't imagine that we would live the second tragedy here. We were attacked by the 366th motor-rifle regiment and my house was burnt. We were shot, young brides and girls were taken prisoners, babies were put on bayonets. The reason was simple: we were Turks. As I mentioned I am a Mehseti Turk. But it doesn't matter for Armenians if I was Mehseti, Anatolian or Azeri Turk. They consider them all their enemies. And Russian Empire always used them for their purposes. And nowadays they always use them for their purposes. Nowadays Russia enlarges its war bases in Armenia. Russia gives them fighter (bombing) planes "MIG-29", "EF-300" rockets.

Jamal Heydarov.

On February 29, we found corpses. But Armenians didn't give a chance to take them. Some women had been killed with their babies on the arms. Some babies chests had been cut and their hearts were divided into pieces. In whole, many of dead bodies had been cut into pieces.

Muzaffar Mammadov - driver.

On February 27, we heard a report of gun in the wood. A boy was crying for help. When we reached him, we saw that he was a Mehseti-Turk by nationality. He was wounded and frozen. We brought him home. When he got better he said that he had hidden 11 men among the rocks. Among them were 5 babies. One of the babies was only 2 months, the other only 5 days old...
