The Chinese public interested in the relations between Azerbaijan and China as well as those who would like to know more about the activities of our Embassy will find on this site all the relevant information.
Relations between Azerbaijan and China have a long history. Because of its advantageous geographical situation Azerbaijan was a natural crossing point on the way from East to West and North to South and was one of the main trade, transport and cultural centres on the Great Silk Road. During the period of early Middle Ages Azerbaijan continued to play an active role in functioning of Silk Road and kept on being important crossing point.
Azerbaijan is one of the initiators of TRACECA (Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia) Program, which construction is important not only for the restoration of the Great Silk Road, but also for the increase of the volume of cargo transportation and establishment of stable ground transportation links between China and countries of Central Asia and Europe.
Despite the considerable distance which separates the two countries, we are enjoying excellent relations. The visits of H.E. Mr. Heydar Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan to China in 1994 and H.E. Mr. Li Peng, The Chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress to Azerbaijan in 2000 are the excellent samples of friendship between two nations.
During recent years, political contacts between Azerbaijan and China are becoming more frequent day by day, economic and trade cooperation is getting enhanced, bilateral trade turnover has grown considerably, collaboration in the energy sphere is developing successfully, tendency for development of cooperation in other fields remains favourable.
H.E. Mr. Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan paid a sate visit to China during 17-19 March, 2005. This visit became a very important event in the history of Azerbaijan-China state-to-state relations. Two sides have signed a number of major documents, which realization will serve the strengthening of mutual cooperation and understanding between Azerbaijan and China and will bring political, economic and cultural relations between our two countries up to a new level.
Since the opening of the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 1993 we were informing Chinese public about economical, political, cultural matters related to Azerbaijan and to the relations between Azerbaijan and China, using wide range of sources.
