Release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan
The people
of Azerbaijan were saddened by the horrifying consequences of the natural
disaster that took place in South-East Asia causing a massive human toll.
At a time when the international community is focused on coping with the
destruction and providing assistance from various parts of the world,
the Republic of Azerbaijan shares the world's sorrow and joins these charitable
efforts. In spite of the territorial claims against Azerbaijan and the
resulting numerous humanitarian problems, including many hardships suffered
by one million Azerbaijanis who were expelled and displaced from their
native lands, upon instructions of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan
Ilham Aliyev, with a view to provide humanitarian assistance, by the Order
of the Cabinet of Ministers of 11 January 2005, $ 1 million was transferred
from the Reserve Fund of the State Budget to the special account of the
United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. The
Ministry is confident that each country will make its contribution in
eliminating the destructive consequences of the tragedy and the international
community will not spare its concerted efforts in further tackling problems
that constitute a potential threat to humanity.
